Stage 2: seasons change on Rysianka

The longest stage of Beskidy MTB Trophy started in the same circumstances as the first one - cloudless sky, pleasant temperature - perfect conditions for bike racing. 76km and around 2700m of ascent for Classic and 59km plus over 2000m of climbing for shorter distance meant at least 4 or 3 hours in the saddle today.

On both distances the initial stage of the race played out in similar way - the latter winners (Dariusz Batek and Mateusz Mróz) of the stage attacked on initial climbs and didn’t give away the lead. The best riders of the day also had more luck as they avoided the huge torment and hailstorm that struck the riders at around 2 hours into race. It was a short, but intense storm and was then followed by tropical heat and sunshine. This is a real face of racing in mountains - one can never be sure what the weather is going to be like and how long it will take to finish the stage. You better be prepared for some tough stuff.

The fastest rider today was Dariusz Batek from CST 7R MTB Team who spent 3h 47 minutes on the course. The Polish National Champion in XCM outraced Paweł Kowalkowski (Cryospace Olsztyn) and Marcin Urbaniak (Colex Racing Team). The winner of first stage - Bartłomiej Oleszczuk (RYBCZYŃSKI-BIKES Remmers TP-Link Team) lost over half an hour to today’s winner probably because of mechanical problems.

The CST Team will have two reasons to celebrate today, as their rider - Rita Malinkiewicz - also took the win home today in ladies category. It was a hard day for the Polish rider, as she was struggling really hard on the descent from Rysianka in company of pouring rain and hail. Second today Seda Grenavetseva (Corto Team Russian Federation) lost 20 minutes to Malinkiewicz. Third place for German Monika Eggert (MTB Eulenexpress des RSC Wanderlust v. 1890 e.V.)

The MEGA distance in men category was dominated by Mateusz Mróz (MRÓZROWERY FOLTYN TEAM), who launched an early attack on the first climb of the day. Second Maciej Stanowicz (Mitsubishi Materials MTB Team) lost almost 8 minutes to the leader. Third spot on the stage podium was taken by the yesterday’s winner Michał Glanz of Warszawski Klub Kolarski.

We could witness a passionate encounter in the women’s category as it came down to sprint between Katarzyna Galewicz and Anna Tomica. The duel was won by the latter and the podium was completed by Izabela Gościańska (DT4YOU MTB TEAM) who crossed the finish line only a 22 seconds after the above mentioned duo.

Tomorrow another tough day with a climax on Klimczok summit. Almost as long as today (for Classicers), but with around 3km of vertical climbing to cover! Also, the weather will play a major role. Remember these are Beskidy, everything can happen and the GC can be turned upside down in one moment. One thing is certain - no one is going to be bored.
